State Official Changes His Mind About Buying $70,000 VW Touareg for Public Money After Mass Media Criticism

Chairman of Jelsk District Executive Committee Lieanid Pisanik Belarus changed his mind about purchasing $70,000 Volkswagen Touareg for public money after active criticism in mass media, Euroradio says.

Previously, the administration of Jelsk, Belarus, decided to buy this top off road car as "his automobile is rather old". The corresponding tender was placed on a state purchase web register.

But after criticism and active questions that had come from a journalist the official decided not to buy a new car. The representatives of the administration said that he used his old Nissan.

The tender had been marked as "erroneous" and was annulled afterwards.
