Record high temperatures were recorded in Belarus on Tuesday and Wednesday, making them the warmest December 1 and 2 in Minsk, the Homyel, Mahilyow and Vitsyebsk regions.
On December 2, thermometers reached 9.3 degrees Celsius in Minsk, 10.7 in Vitsyebsk, 10.9 in Mahilyow and 10.1 in Homyel, beating the previous records of 8.8, 7.5, 7.7 and 9.5, respectively, a representative of the National Hydrometeorology Center told BelaPAN.
The highest temperature was recorded in the town of Aktsyabrski, Homyel region, where the mercury climbed as high as 13 degrees Celsius, by 0.2 degree higher than the previous all-time high registered in Pinsk, Brest region.
The warmest-ever day for December was recorded in Brest, where temperatures soared to 14.5 degrees Celsius on December 5, 1961.
The National Hydrometeorology Center said that the mean November 2009 temperature of 3.6 degrees Celsius was 2.9 degrees above the long-term average, a level that is observed once in 15 years. The average precipitation level in November was 32 percent above the average for that month, which is recorded once in five years.
