The public association "Belarusian Association of Journalists" celebrates 15th anniversary on September 16. The constituent congress, at which creation of independent journalist organization was declared and the charter was approved, took place on this very day 15 years ago.
The founders of the Belarusian Association of Journalists and it's current members got together for congratulations - journalists and politicians, diplomats, political scientists, human rights activists. According to the Chairperson of the organization Zhanna Litwina, 15 is not such a serious age, however, years are counted another way here.
Litwina: "15 does not seem to be an anniversary to celebrate or to remember. However, I keep saying that we should count a year for three. So we are in quite a serious age".
The present commemorated their deceased colleagues with a minute of silence. The leader of the Belarusian Association of Journalists promised the organization would go on fighting for the interests of its members and the rights of Belarusian citizens for receiving and dissemination of information, for freedom of word and speech.
