Belarus Prepares for Victory Day Parade With Show Of Military Might

Belarus has no intentions to cancel Victory Day celebrations and is now preparing for the military parade on 9 May despite the coronavirus outbreak.
The Victory Day parade is planned to be held in the evening and will last about an hour. Over 3,000 people are expected to take part in the parade.
Soldiers are training for three times a week and platforms are being set up in Belarus’ capital, the Ministry of Defense reports. Full rehearsals are scheduled on 5 and 7 May.
The column of infantry will include 20 Belarusian squads and one each from Russia and China. A mechanized column will include 185 mechanized units and consist of 16 squads from Belarus and two from Russia.

The T-34 tank will lead the column, it will be followed by new and modernized models of military equipment, lightly armored vehicles, as well as 27 most modern weapons and military equipment.
The Russian army will be represented by BTR-82A armored personnel carriers and Iskander tactical missile systems. Also 42 planes – 34 from Belarus and 8 from Russia – will fly over the city.

Earlier Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said: “We must hold this event at the highest level so that both our children and the world can see that we remember those horrible times.
Belarus is a living monument of that terrible war. No other country suffered more than Belarus. (…) Let God protect us from the coronavirus. We have already lost a lot of people.”

Meanwhile, 300 people in Belarus have been infected with coronavirus since its outbreak, the Ministry of Health reported on 2 April.
