54.5% of Belarusians are in favor of a union with Russia, and 25% support a union with the European Union. 20.5% of those polled remain undecided. Around 5% would like to see Belarus as part of the Russian Federation, according to the returns of a poll conducted by the Warsaw-based think tank Belarusian Analytical Workroom (BAW).
The results were presented by BAW Director Andrei Vardamatski on 28 September at the 8th International Congress of Belarusian Studies in Vilnius, Lithuania.
The number of people supporting a union with Russia has gradually dropped almost 9 percentage points against the same period in 2018. The number of pro-European supporters fluctuates at the level of 20-25%. The number of those wishing to see Belarus as an entity of the Russian Federation remains at unchanged at 3-5% since 2004 when the monitoring was launched.
The poll with a national sample of 1000 respondents was carried out in Belarus in August 2019.
