4G will cover all regional cities and towns of Belarus in 2017
4G connections will become available in regional centres of Belarus by the end of 2017, Communications and Informatization Minister Sergei Popkov told the media on 11 April.

According to him, LTE is now available across 42% of the country’s territory. Additional 1000 mobile base stations will be ordered by the state service operator beCloud this year.

“We will develop this technology in accordance with the needs of the population. If 4G is in demand in rural areas, we will introduce it there, too,” Sergei Popkov is quoted by BelTA.

The minister added that the technology is popular in Belarus.

“Nearly 25-30% of subscribers have switched to the 4G network. But everything depends on the quality coverage. Instructions have been given to cover the whole country and improve the quality of the service by the end of 2017,” Sergei Popkov said.

5G will probably be introduced in commercial operation in 2018-2019, the official added.
