Prominent Belarusian musician Lyavon Volski invites all persons who were sentenced to more than 10 days in prison for participating in Freedom Day rally to attend his oncoming concert for free, euroradio.fm reports with reference to the organizers.
The Belarusian authorities put Lyavon Volski on their unofficial black list of artists who do not support Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s regime. State-controlled TV stations never invite him as a guest; he was actually banned from giving concerts in Belarus, that is why he often performs abroad.
The show will be held on May 8 in the Lithuanian capital (Vakaris Vilnius club). The performer is expected to present the ‘172’ programme which includes his best songs.
On March 25, the Minsk riot police brutally dispersed the protest against the so-called tax on ‘spongers’ introduced by president Alyaksandr Lukashenka in 2015. Even women, elderly people, journalists and ordinary passers-by – were arrested, battered and jailed. It is noteworthy that the protesters also planned a peaceful celebration of Freedom Day. It is an unofficial holiday commemorating the establishment of the first Belarusian nation-state, the Belarusian People’s Republic, on March 25, 1918.
