Minsk's Jewish community commemorate Simon Peres in his native township

About a dozen people representing the Jewish community in Minsk today came to the township of Vishniova in Valozhyn district to commemorate Israel's former president Simon Peres who was born here and today has died at the age of 93. In a comment to Euroradio, members of the delegation said they came to visit the place Peres was born in, to drink water from the well, which remembers the famous compatriot.
They also served a sermon at the memorial site for the Jews killed during World War II. Simon Peres had donoated $5000 for the monument at the site.
Israel's 9th president Simon Peres died today after a stroke. He served as the president from 2007 till 2014.
He was born in Vishniova, Valozhyn district (Belarus) on August 2, 1923. Simon Peres immigrated to Palestine in 1934.
