A Bialystok-based foundation called Window to the East has launched free online courses that will allow citizens of Belarus and other Russian speakers to learn the Polish language online free of charge.

The first website of its kind, www.polskijazyk.pl uses the most advanced methods of distance learning, Marcin Wojciechowski, first counselor at the Polish embassy on Minsk, told BelaPAN.

The courses provide language training from the A1 (breakthrough or beginner) level to the B1 (threshold or intermediate) level based on the requirements of State Certificate Examinations in Polish as a Foreign Language. The site contains more than 1000 audio records and 1,200 multimedia files and provides information about the history and culture of modern Poland and its prominent figures.

The creation of the site was financed by the Polish foreign ministry within the framework of a contest aimed at promoting “public diplomacy.”
