Euroradio

All election observers, local and foreign, will have to get accreditation for election monitoring in Belarus.

The nearest are local council elections that will take place in Belarus on March 23, 2014.

"The norm of compulsory accreditation is reflected in the corresponding regulation, adopted at the session of the central Elections Commission in Minsk on December 17," Interfax-West quotes CEC Chairperson Lidziya Yarmoshyna. "The institution of observers' accreditation is introduced in Belarus for the first time. before this, it was enough to register in the elections commission."

According to Yarmoshyna, the innovation "solves a number of issues". If an observer who "broke the order" could only be thrown away from the voting station, now he can be deprived of accreditation.

It became known that the CEC would not invite the international observers to the local election.
