Belarus is likely to become the top-priority partner for the European Union in the framework of its Eastern Partnership program in the future, Olena Skomoroshchenko, a leader of the Social Democratic Party of Ukraine, told reporters on the sidelines of an international conference of left-wing parties in Chernihiv, Ukraine, on November 6.

"For the EU Belarus should become the country that will finally become the traditional corridor between the bloc and Russia," she said.

The politician predicted that after political transformations Belarus would become the "main geopolitical partner" for the EU in the framework of the Eastern Partnership. "We highly appreciate the geopolitical place of Belarus in Europe," she said.

Boris Guselyotov, a leader of the Just Russia party, said that Moscow should have a more flexible approach to relations with Minsk. "The Russian authorities should use contacts with the opposition and the media more actively," he suggested.

He predicted that the Kremlin would change its relations with the Belarusian government in the future. He stressed that Moscow and the EU should coordinate their policies toward Belarus.
