As it was reported before, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevicius was to hand an invitation to Belarusian President Aliaksandr Lukashenka. But the meeting seems not to have been on cards – the invitation to the summit in Vilnius was delivered by diplomats.
The issue of our country’s participation in November’s summit is in the hands of the head of state, Andrey Savinych, spokesman for the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stresses.
According to him, the procedure of inviting Belarus is identical to those applied in other EaP member countries. "It is a question of principle because Belarus has always upheld the position that non-discriminatory attitude to the cooperation in the frames of the Partnership should be provided," Mr Savinykh says.
Invitations to the summit which is to be held on November 28-29, 2013 in Vilnius were sent to diplomats of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. The invitations are adressed to the states, not to individuals, Lithuanian media report with reference to the foreign service.
