A cooperation agreement was signed Wednesday in Minsk between the Belarusian State Television and Radio Company (BSTRC) and China Central Television (CCTV).

The accord was inked by BSTRC head Henadz Davydzka and CCTV Vice President Luo Ming, reported the BSTRC press office.

The agreement will "contribute to the development of bilateral ties with a view to satisfying the cultural and information needs of the two countries’ citizens," the press office said.

While meeting Thursday with Liu Yunshan, first secretary of the Central Secretariat of the Communist Party of China, Alyaksandr Lukashenka suggested that China should establish a powerful media group in Belarus.

"We would like China to establish a powerful media group here, at the center of Europe, to broadcast from this territory to Europe and the post-Soviet region," the Belarusian leader said. "But for us it is more important that this media group, which could be a joint company or a Chinese company, should actively work to promote our cooperation so that people in China know more about our plans, Belarus, our joint projects and initiatives."
