Minsk welcomes Israel-Hamas ceasefire

Belarus welcomes the ceasefire between Israel and Palestine and is happy to say that no citizens of Belarus have been injured in their most recent conflict, the foreign ministry's spokesman, Andrey Savinykh, said at Thursday's briefing.

The Belarusian embassy in Tel Aviv is following the situation in the region and is ready to provide the necessary help to citizens of Belarus, Mr. Savinykh said.
He expressed hope that both sides of the conflict would abide by the ceasefire agreement.

Belarus supports the efforts that are being made to resolve the conflict through talks and condemns the use of force that leads to Palestinian and Israeli casualties, Mr. Savinykh said.
A ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas movement that governs Gaza came into effect late on November 21.

Under the deal, Israel has agreed to end all hostilities and targeted killings, while Hamas will stop rocket attacks against Israel and along the border.

At least 157 people have died since the flare-up of violence began last week.

Both sides continued to fire on each other as the ceasefire deadline approached, but no major breaches have been reported.
