The human rights situation in Belarus will be discussed at a session of the European Parliament.

The website ucpb.org learnt the news from the leader of the United Civil Party (UCP), Anatol Lyabedzka, who participated in the meeting of the working group on Belarus of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly.

"The work over the document is in progress," Mr. Lyabedzka said. "It's possible that some aspects of our discussion, in particular the situation of political prisoners and problems of absence of parliament in Belarus, will be reflected in a draft resolution."

The politician finds important the fact of prolongation of the mandate of the working group on Belarus of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly: "It shows the stable interest of the European Parliament in Belarus. A question of proposing seats in the Euronest Assembly to members of the Belarusian 'house of representatives' was not even raised. MEPs show their solidarity with the majority of Belarusian voters and stand for a strict boycott."
