BPF denies calls for economic sanctions

Chairman of the BPF party Aleksei Yanukevich said the party defends the sovereignty of Belarus and is not in favor of the deteriorating socio-economic situation in the country.

BPF believes, the party's name mentioned out of place in the state-run media reports and statements of officials in connection with the "political statements of individual citizens of Belarus".

In the statement released by the press service of the party, said the BPF has consistently defended the sovereignty of Belarus and has consistently opposed the presence in its territory of any foreign troops.

"The BPF Party, while formulating its policy has always been guided primarily by national interests", the statement of party chairman says. Yanukevich added that representatives of the BPF "has never made and could not make statements, that the deterioration of the socio-economic situation in the country and reduction of the people's life in Belarus could contribute to any positive changes, including the democratization of the country."
