He also was late for home again, because he was in a prosecutor's office to file a complaint at policemen. On October 8, he took his son to a hockey game and got detained by police. On December 19, police officers detained him at home. They said he needed to sign some papers. Kavalenka was taken from the corrections department to the Pershamaiski district police department of Vitsebsk and then to a temporary detention facility", Elena Kavalenka said.
She said, now her husband was taken to a pretrial detention center in Vitsebsk. She stated, that all claims against him are connected exclusively with his civil position.
Sergei Kavalenka was repeatedly detained by police for organizing various activities. In May 2010 the Court of Kastrychnitski district of Vitsebsk sentenced him to three years of imprisonment for hanging a white-red-white flag on the main Christmas tree in Vitsebsk on January 7. This action was identified by authorities as "wilful actions, roughly violating public order and expressing an obvious disrespect to society".
