Valery Vakulchik, Head of the Operations and Analysis Center under the President was appointed by Alyaksandr Lukashenka as Chairman of the Investigation Committee of Belarus
BelTA informs citing the presidential press service. Andrey Shved, who had previously worked as the Deputy Prosecutor General of Belarus, was appointed as the First Deputy Chairman of Investigation Committee.
Instead of Valery Vakulchik as the Head of the Operations and Analysis Center under the President was appointed Sergey Shpegun.
We remind, on September 12 Alyaksandr Lukashenka signed the decree № 409 "On Formation of the Investigation Committee of the Republic of Belarus". It was planned that the decree will come into force on January 1, 2012.
The document defines the status of the Investigation Committee as "the state law enforcement agency and agency of the preliminary investigation, subordinate to the president of Belarus and implementing authorities in accordance with legislative acts in the field of pre-trial criminal proceedings".
According to presidential press service the decree also allocates "the main tasks of the new agency, including a full, complete, impartial and prompt investigation of crime, protection of rights and lawful interests of citizens, law enforcement while checking, reviewing applications and reports of crimes, instituting criminal proceedings, carrying out preliminary investigation".
Chairman of the Investigation Committee, his deputy and heads of regional and Minsk departments will be appointed by the president.
