Belarus and Russia signed the contract agreement on nuclear power plant


Atomstroyexport JSC and State Enterprise "Directorate for Nuclear Power Plant Construction" (Belarus) signed the contract agreement on the construction of the first stage of nuclear power plant in Belarus, the press service of Atomstroyexport reports.

The contract agreement defines basics of a general contract of the turnkey construction project of two nuclear power units with total capacity of 2,400 MW from B-491 reactor.

It is planned the Belarusian NPP will be built under full responsibility of the general contractor.

The project "AES-2006" of "St. Petersburg Atomenergoproekt" is selected for the first Belarusian NPP construction.

Earlier, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenka stated that he agreed to sign a contract with Russia to build the NPP. According to him, Belarusian part has already started to work at a construction site for the NPP.

To place the nuclear plant the site in Astravets in Grodno region was selected. The first unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant to start operating in 2017, the second unit - in 2018.
