Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez on Monday completed his three-day visit to Belarus.
The Venezuelan leader held lengthy one-on-one talks with Alyaksandr Lukashenka on October 16. Afterward the heads of state were joined by some Belarusian and Venezuelan officials for narrow-format talks.
The talks yielded a number of agreements, including a contract that reportedly provides for annual deliveries of up to 10 million tons of Venezuelan crude oil to Belarus from 2011 through 2013.
On October 17 Mr. Chavez visited Minsk’s new housing development called Kamennya Horka where he was shown a newly erected apartment building as evidence of the capabilities of Belarus’ precast large-panel housing construction industry. On the same day the Venezuelan president visited the BelAZ and MAZ truck factories and an exhibition of Belarusian-made gas and oil production and processing equipment in front of the National Library in Minsk.
This was the Venezuelan leader's fifth visit to Belarus. Mr. Lukashenka paid two visits to Venezuela, with the most recent one coming this past March. Belarus and Venezuela have carried out jointly several large economic projects. Belarus is to import four million tons of crude from the South American country this year.
