Belarus FM welcomes idea to set up election observation authority for post-Soviet countries
Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei gave his take on the idea to set up an election observation authority in the post-Soviet space as he gave an interview with the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA has learned.

The minister was asked whether it is worth developing common standards and setting up an election observation authority in the post-Soviet space.

"I think it is worth it. The idea is floating around. We discussed this topic with my colleagues at some ministerial meetings. There are a number of other proposals related to the development of common approaches in the post-Soviet space with regard to, for example, human rights issues. It is very important, of course, to have common approaches to electoral campaigns," Vladimir Makei said.

"The fact that we invite observers from the CIS, from the authorities that truly strive to assess the processes taking place in a particular country objectively is very illustrative. I think that this idea merits consideration," the minister added.
