Makei, Borrell discuss situation on Belarus-Poland border over phone

Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei and Vice President of the European Commission, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell held a telephone conversation, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“Belarus confirmed its readiness for an equal and mutually respectful dialogue with the European Union. The futility of sanctions and counterproductivity of such approaches to the development of relations between Belarus and the EU was emphasized,” the statement reads.
The parties discussed the difficult situation with migrants on the border between Belarus and the EU. Vladimir Makei informed Josep Borrell about the steps Belarus had taken to reduce the flow of migrants from Asia, Africa and the Middle East, provide humanitarian aid to refugees at the border and interact with international organizations of the UN on the issue. Belarus confirmed its interest in the speedy resolution of the migrant crisis.
The parties agreed to keep channels of dialogue open.
