Former diplomat, Head of the People’s Anti-Crisis Administration Pavel Latushko announced his intention to create a party, which will allow him to use his many years of political and diplomatic experience “to build a new Belarus”.

“We plan to participate in the construction of New Belarus and its political life. For this, we need a structure, a party. The party is an effective tool for achieving goals in a democratic society. A new party is not about new posts. The voter support of the party has yet to be won,” explained the politician.

The head of the People’s Anti-Crisis Administration sees Belarus as a parliamentary-presidential republic based on the principles of a change of power, a multi-party system, a system of checks and balances. “This is the best way to avoid a repetition of the dictatorship in the future,” noted the ex-diplomat.

“It is important to start creating a political structure even before Lukashenko resigns, in order to be able to respond in a timely manner to the political vacuum that forms after this happens. We are actually working ahead of the curve. We understand that in the current realities it is hardly possible to register a party, but we are preparing in advance to do this as soon as political and legal conditions emerge in the country. Soon we will present a secure platform for uniting like-minded people in a future party,” said Latushko.

The name of the party and its program are yet to be announced.

“The People’s Anti-Crisis Administration will continue to focus on pressuring the regime, forcing it to fulfil the conditions of the Belarusian society and negotiations, as well as on ensuring stability in the transition period – and will stop operating as soon as the country receives a new, legally elected president. The party will be engaged in the construction of New Belarus within the framework of a multi-party system,” says Pavel Latushko.

This is not the first initiative for the new opposition to create its own party. Last year, ex-banker Viktor Babariko announced the creation of his party “Together”, and recently he urged his supporters and asked to continue this work. Representatives of Viktor Babariko’s team plan to officially register the party.
