Central Election Commission chairwoman Lidziya Yarmoshyna / BELTA
“The presidential election campaign will most likely be held in the period indicated in the Constitution. The last possible week is August 30, 2020. Most likely, it will be the date of the election of the President of the Republic of Belarus,” the CEC chairperson told ONT on August 4.
Yarmoshyna also explained why it would not be good to organize the presidential election in the spring of 2020. “The [parliamentary] election will be held in November. It means that a new Parliament will be formed in December. And the presidential election campaign would have to start three months later. Why change the parliamentary election date then?” the CEC chairperson said.
The parliamentary election will be held on November 17, 2019, Euroradio reported. It is 10 months before the end of the term of work of the current House of Representatives. Nevertheless, Yarmoshyna does not consider it to be an early election.
