'Ukrainian spy' Sharoiko transferred from KGB cell to prison in Babrujsk

Ukrainian journalist Pavel Sharoiko charged in Belarus with espionage was transferred from a KGB detention center to Colony No 2 in Babrujsk before the New Year eve, Ukraine's Ambassador in Minsk Igor Kizim told Euroradio.

According to the Ukrainian envoy, Sharoiko's wife has already met her husband in the colony. On 23 January, a Ukrainian consul will visit him too.

Pavel Sharoiko had worked as a Belarus correspondent for Ukraine's National TV and Radio Company when in October 2017 he was detained by Belarusian security service also known under the Soviet achronym KGB. Sharoiko was charged with espionage and running a ring of agents inside Belarus. The court hearing was held behind closed doors convicting the Ukrainian to 'several years in prison.' Later, diplomats said he had been sentenced to "more than eight years."
