Putin sets task for new Russian ambassador in Belarus
Putin meets with Babich after his appointment
Mikhail Babich, whom Vladimir Putin appointed the other day as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation in Minsk and special representative of the President for the development of trade and economic cooperation with Belarus, outlined what he is going to do in Minsk.

The main task that Putin formally entrusted Babich with is the increase in trade between Belarus and Russia. Last year, it grew by almost a quarter and amounted to $ 32.4 billion. Two months ago, Putin said that it could be increased to $ 50 billion — and that’s exactly what he outlined for Babich.

“I understand the scope of the tasks I set, I realize my personal responsibility and will do everything to justify your trust,” Babich said at a meeting with the head of Russia on Friday.

According to Babich, Belarus is not only “the largest economic partner”, but also “the most important geopolitical and military ally” of Russia. It is aslo a “fraternal people for Russians”.

“We have to do everything with the colleagues from the government of the Russian Federation, the presidential administration, with the Belarusian partners, so that the agreements reached between the heads of state will be implemented in practice,” the new ambassador added.
