The Belarusian Ambassador to Lithuania was summoned to the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday, April 26. On the 32nd anniversary of Chernobyl disaster the ambassador received a note over the fire incident at the Ostravets NPP.

The news was made public by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania.

An urgent request was made to carefully study the causes of the fire and provide prompt information about the incident and the actions taken.

The ministry also noted that there were six known incidents at the BelNPP that occured in 2016.

This raises serious doubts about the quality of the project and the potential impact on the environment, the MFA stressed.

Recall that on April 25 the anti-nuclear activist Nikolai Ulasevich reported a major fire at the emergency protection system of the NPP reactor.

“According to eyewitnesses, fire started in the electrical panel during the test run of the equipment of the reactor emergency protection system.

The shield with expensive equipment completely burned out, the fire also damaged electrical cables,” he said.

BelNPP and the Ministry for Emergency Situations denied the fact of the fire.

According to the departments, there was a short circuit incident of the temporary power cable without subsequent burning.
