Belarus Foreign Minister announces extension of visa-free regime
New steps to expand the visa-free regime will be discussed at a meeting with Alyaksandr Lukashenka in January.

“We’re going to move further in this direction. Of course, we will be considering all the factors, given the open border with Russia and our responsibilities within the frame of the Union State. We are currently in negotiations with our Russian friends. In January, there will be held a meeting with the head of state on this issue — we will make appropriate proposals. I think the meeting will result in concrete decisions,” the Foreign Minister Uladzimir Makei said in a TV program on Belarus 1.

Makei said that the introduction of visa-free regime in January 2017 has led to a significant increase in revenues from tourism services, services in the hospitality industry, and health care. Foreign Minister called the new regime a “positive experience”.

“We can introduce a visa-free regime for all and for long periods tomorrow already. Especially that the president has the full authority to do so. But it is necessary to weigh the “pros” and “cons”,” said Makei. says.
