Belarus supports Russia's actions in Syria and believes they correspond accordance with international law. This was stated by the Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Uladzimir Makei after the joint meeting of the Foreign Ministry of Belarus and Russia in Moscow.
According to Makei, "Russian friends very quickly informed" the Belarusian side that at the request of the president of Syria, Russia will strike at the terrorists in Syria. At the same time the official Minsk is surprised that Russia was not invited to join the international coalition against the Islamic state. Makei said that terrorism is a danger to all humanity, and "it is impossible to divide terrorists into moderate and extreme."
Russia began military operations in Syria on September 30th. The Russian President Vladimir Putin said that airstrikes are performed at the request of the official Damascus.
US Secretary of State John Kerry said the United States are ready to welcome this step if Russia really hit the Islamic State. Washington noted the fact that Moscow launched an operation before the scheduled consultation of the military departments, although it did inform the US and NATO about its actions against terrorists.
Earlier, the US government called Russia's actions dangerous if they are performed without peace talks in Syria, BelaPAN recalls.
