Belarus-EU relations will be discussed in European Parliament today. The event has been organized by the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum. Head of the EP delegation for relations with Belarus Bogdan Zdrojewski will start the discussion. Representative of the European External Action Service Dirk Schuebel, director of the Centre for European Transformation Andrei Yegorov, director of Zvozskau Belarusian Human Rights House Hanna Herasimovich and member of the Public Bologna Committee Uladzimir Dunayeu are also expected to make speeches there.

The future of the European sanctions imposed on Belarusian representatives will be discussed at the meeting. The participants will also discuss whether the European Union has to improve the relations with Belarus due to the new geopolitical situation in the region despite the constant human rights violations in the country.

The European Union announced its readiness to lift the sanctions from blacklisted Belarusian officials but leave the weapon embargo in force on Monday, October 12. The final decision will be made by the end of October.
