Berlin appreciates Lukashenka's role in Ukraine peace talks

Germany appreciates Alyaksandr Lukashenka's role in international efforts to secure peace in eastern Ukraine, Gernot Erler, the German federal government's coordinator for intersocietal cooperation with Russia, Central Asia and the Eastern Partnership countries, told reporters in Minsk on September 3.
Minsk's role as the host of talks held by the Contact Group on Ukraine and its subgroups is very appreciated, he stressed.

Mr. Erler noted that his visit was aimed at highlighting the importance attached by Berlin to Belarus' contribution to the Ukraine peace process.
There can only be a political solution to the conflict in Ukraine, he stressed.
