Statkevich’s wife Maryna Adamovich is the leader of his initiative group. “There are about 1700 people in our initiative group at the moment,” she told journalists.

Ex-presidential candidate Uladzimir Nyaklyayeu is also a member of Statkevich’s initiative group.

The documents were accepted without any problems. Adamovich will receive an invitation to the committee meeting on Monday morning by post.

“There is legal basis for registering Mikola Statkevich’s initiative group. If this is not done… we will have to decide what to do next. We will know everything on Monday,” Maryna Adamovich said.

Count Prushynski is also a member of the political prisoner’s initiative group. He suddenly appeared in the CEC because he wanted to see Lidziya Yarmoshyna. But all was in vain.

Mikola Statkevich was a presidential candidate in 2010. He is in prison now. He was returned guilty of the organization of mass riots in Minsk on the Election Day and was sentenced to 6 years of imprisonment in May 2011. The CEC cannot legally refuse to register his initiative group, independent experts say. CEC sectary Mikalai Lazavik also expressed this opinion in an interview with Euroradio.
