Minsk hosting meeting of Eastern Partnership Panel on Migration and Asylum

An international meeting of experts on labor migration began in Minsk on May 6, said the interior ministry's press office.

The two-day meeting of the Eastern Partnership Panel on Migration and Asylum was to focus on "practical aspects of admission and control" and feature representatives of most of the 33 states involved in the Panel, as well as international organizations and businesses.

The agenda included procedural aspects of the admission of labor migrants, the EU and national practices of the admission of specific categories of labor migrants, cooperation between public and private institutions on the recruitment of labor force, and problems of and solutions to illegal employment of migrant workers.

Belarus has actively participated in the Panel's meetings in an effort to expand cooperation on migration with other Eastern Partnership countries and the EU, borrow experience and study foreign laws governing migration, according to the press office.

The Eastern Partnership Panel on Migration and Asylum was launched in 2011 with a view to strengthening the migration and asylum systems of the Eastern Partnership countries and advancing dialogue on migration and asylum policies between the EU and the partner countries.
