Former Lithuanian Armed Forces medic Andrei Oshurkov has pleaded guilty of spying for Belarus. The journalists learned it after the first court session from his lawyer and relative Viktor Oshurkov, interfax.by reports.
At the beginning of the meeting, the judge Virginija Švedienė announced that the case will be reviewed behind closed doors. It was a request made by the prosecutor of the Prosecutor General Office of Lithuania Redas Savickas, as in fact there are secret documents.
News about the arrest of Andrei Oshurkov appeared in December 2014. According to Lithuanian intelligence agencies, the Main Intelligence Office of the General Staff of Belarus recruited and purposefully put Oshurkov in the Lithuanian army. The Lithuanian side claims that the medical instructor passed on information to Belarus for five years. He did it for money.
Belarusian GRU was interested in military equipment, weapons, buildings of the Armed Forces of Lithuania, participation in international operations, NATO, standard operations' plans, military exercises, etc.
Oshurkov is 28, he is single, never on trial before, he lives in Kaunas. He was arrested in January 2014.
