The Belarusian State Security Committee (KGB) has disassociated itself from disseminating the information about the responsibility Belarusian citizens would face for joining separatist groups in Ukraine.
‘This information is not accurate. KGB has nothing to do with its distribution,’ KGB spokesman Artur Strekh told state-run news agency BelTA.

Some days ago online media reported that the Belarusian KGB was warning against the danger of recruitment of citizens as participants of the illegal armed groups in Ukraine. The Committee allegedly discouraged volunteers from participating in military actions against referring to the Criminal Code’s article ‘Mercenarism’.
In July, 2014 the Belarusian Ministry of Interior said that our nationals taking part in military actions in Ukraine and people recruiting them might be criminally prosecuted under Article 133 of the Criminal Code ('Mercenarism').
The citizens of Belarus are joining both Ukraine-volunteer battalions and pro-Russian insurgents.
