Lutsenko: Belarusians should not fight for Ukraine

Zmicier Lukashuk, Euroradio

The ex-Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, a Maidan leader and Petro Poroshenko’s adviser has told Euroradio about it.

About 15 Belarusians joined the Ukrainian voluntary battalion Donbass, Euroradio reported earlier. The number may have increased since then. They are fighting pro-Russia militants in East Ukraine.

Foreigners should not risk their lives and fight for Ukraine, Yuri Lutsenko thinks.

Lutsenko: "I believe that Ukrainian citizens should serve in military units. We cannot watch foreign citizens risk their lives for our independence… There are others ways to help the Ukrainian Army… Belarusians’ help, and we felt it very well at Maidan, should be nonmilitary.”

They may help on the home front and in intelligence, Yuri Lutsensko assured. The country’s independence should be meaningful for every Ukraine and they must struggle for it, he believes.
