The House of Representatives and the Council of the Republic, the lower and upper chambers of the National Assembly, on Friday began their fall session after a recess of more than three months.
The fall session agenda of the lower chamber consists of 31 items so far, including a draft Education Code, draft laws governing the State Control Committee and the government’s policy regarding youths, and bills of amendments to the Land and Civil Codes and laws governing use of nuclear energy and banking operations.
The National Assembly is expected to consider the ratification bills for seven international agreements, consider three presidential decrees and a number of government appointments.
The recognition of the independence of Georgia’s breakaway regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia is not on the agenda but may be added to it in the course of the session, Syarhey Maskevich, chairman of the lower chamber’s Committee on International Affairs and Relations within the CIS, told BelaPAN.
He noted that lawmakers had not yet formed a clear opinion on whether or not to recognize the two regions or postpone the matter altogether.
While visiting Lithuania in September, Alyaksandr Lukashenka said that the Belarusian legislature would consider the matter at its fall session.
