Lukashenko urges to promote Belarusian developments in medicine internationally

Lukashenko commented on the potential of promoting Belarusian developments in medicine citing the example of cooperation with Zimbabwe as he talked to Belarusian scientists in Minsk on 9 February, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Lukashenko said that he discussed the possibilities of cooperation in healthcare with Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa as he paid the state visit to that country. Zimbabwe is struggling with high child and maternal mortality. Having good achievements and best practices in this sector, Belarus can provide its assistance.

"The president's wife is running a fund that helps children," the head of state said. “We will launch a program to work with this fund. We will start with some humanitarian assistance, transfer the most necessary things and help Zimbabwe to treat children. But the most important thing is to feed kids. We produce baby food, milk and meat-based formulas. Let's get engaged. Let's host a group of specialists and share our best practices with them.”

"This is an area where we can cooperate," the president continued. “Another one is healthcare. We can pitch in and be of help. We have specialists, we have university programs. We can invite them to study at our universities. This means additional revenue opportunities for our healthcare sector. I mean we need to be proactive and go beyond our borders."

Speaking about Zimbabwe, he noted that the country is rich in natural resources, and they understand the advantages of developing equal cooperation with such states as Belarus. "A unique country, beautiful, quite developed. But the most important thing it is very rich. Naturally, they do not open the door to everyone. They figured out what large states are. They want to be friends with equal states. As I told the president directly: ‘Belarus has no such leverages to impose pressure or sanctions'," the president noted.

Belarus has many technologies and innovations in various fields, which it is willing to share, Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized.
