Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei has died, BelTA informs with reference to press secretary of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Ministry Anatoly Glaz.

Vladimir Makei was born in 1958.

He graduated from the Minsk State Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages in 1980; the Diplomatic Academy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Austria in 1993.

Vladimir Makei served in the Armed Forces of the USSR and Belarus in 1980-1993. He was a retired colonel. He worked as third secretary of the Information and Humanitarian Cooperation Directorate, second secretary of the Analysis and Forecasting Department, second secretary of the Secretariat of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus in 1993-1995; Deputy Head of the State Protocol Service at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1995-1996; the representative of the Republic of Belarus to the Council of Europe, Counselor of the Embassy of Belarus in France in 1996-1999; the head of the Pan-European Cooperation Directorate at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus in 1999-2000.

He held the post of an aide to the President of Belarus in 2000-2008, and Head of the Belarus President Administration in 2008-2012.

Vladimir Makei served as Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus since 22 August 2012. He had the diplomatic rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary.
