The year 2022 will be announced Year of Historical Memory in Belarus, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he paid a visit to the National Research Center Mother and Child on 31 December, BelTA has learned.
“Among the things I still need to do this year is to wish a Happy New Year to my people and sign a degree on 2022 Year of Historical Memory,” the president said.
On New Year's Eve, the president has a traditional working schedule.
Aleksandr Lukashenko started the morning with a hockey training session with his team and wished them a Happy New Year. “I extended greetings to the hockey players and had an intense training session,” he said. By the way, this is also a tradition.
Then, Aleksandr Lukashenko visited the new building of the National Research Center where babies with record-low birth weight are taken care of. He got familiar with the operation of the center, visited the wards, talked to the nursing staff and mothers of babies and, of course, brought nice and useful gifts for them.
He thanked the doctors, but warned that it is not time to get complacent. “Thank you, doctors. I came to see you today because it is New Year's Eve, of course. The coming year will not be an easy one either. First of all, I am grateful to you. Secondly, I ask you not to feel complacent. No one knows how things will turn out. It is not about the pandemic, the coronavirus – we have already learned how to treat it, and we will deal with it. We have to stay alert and be ready for any events.”
“Our ‘war' is not over. Next year we will have to save people,” Aleksandr Lukashenko added.
