Siarhei Rumas appointed as new prime minister

Siarhei Rumas who served as the Belarusian Bank of Development CEO has been appointed as a new Prime Minister, according to President Aliaksandr Lukashenka's decision on Saturday, reports reports the president's press office. Earlier this week during a working trip to Orsha, Lukashenka slammed the government and promised to appoint a new cabinet.
Aliaksandr Turchyn, previously the chief of staff at the Council of Ministers, has been appointed as Senior Deputy Prime Minister. Ihar Lyashenka has been appointed as Deputy Prime Minister in charge of energy resources. He has taken over from seemingly unsinkable former DPM Uladzimir Syamashka. Lyashenka previously headed the petrochemical monopoly Belnaftakhim.
Uladzimir Kukharau has also become Deputy Prime Minister. Previously, he served as a deputy chairman of the State Control Committee. In the new government, he will be in charge of construction, transport and housing. One more newly appointed Prime Minister Ihar Piatryshchanka was Belarus' ambassador to Russia. He will be charge of social security, education, healthcase and sport.
Several new ministers have been appointed as follows:
- Architecture and Construction — Dzmitry Mikulyonak;
- Industry — ПPavel Yutsiupin;
- Communication and Informatization — Kanstantsin Shulgan;
- Economy — Dzmitry Kruty.
Raman Halouchanka has been appointed as the chairman of State Military Industrial Committee.
