Belarus will do everything possible for Ukraine to live in peace, Aliaksandr Lukashenka said Sunday while attending an Easter service at the Holy Ghost Cathedral Church in Minsk.

“There are bad developments in Ukraine now,” the Belarusian leader said, according to the presidential press office. “We will certainly do everything for Ukraine to live quietly.”

According to Mr Lukashenka, a year ago he spoke about the so-called Arab Spring and war-torn Syria. “I then told you in my presidential address to the Belarusian people that you should not believe that this is far away from us,” he said. “The world is so small now that it is unacceptable to say that this is far away. Look what has happened. This is taking place in our region, not even near it.”

Belarus will never be part of any other state, Aliaksandr Lukashenka added.

“The Belarusian land will always belong to the citizens of the country, not only Belarusians but all people who live on this land, including Russians, Jews, Poles and Ukrainians,” Mr Lukashenka said.
