The investigation into Andrei Haidukou's case, who was arrested for "treason", has been extended until May 8.
Charter97.org has learnt it from Volha Haidukova, the mother of political prisoner Andrei Haidukou.
"The month was coming to an end and it wasn't clear what would happen. The lawyer phoned the senior investigator and the latter said the investigation was again extended for another month until May 8," the political prisoner's mother said.
She stressed the KGB didn't give any explanations and the investigator said an expert examination was under way.
"I think they don't carry out any investigative procedures, otherwise they would call the lawyer. I cannot visit my son. I was told decisively and categorically that I would be able to see him only before the trial or at the end of the investigation. I don't understand why they are so slow with the investigation. KGB officers probably don't have enough evidence. It was a vague and absurd case from the beginning. It is difficult to predict their steps. Andrei probably doesn't want to play the scenario of the authorities. That's why it takes such a long time," Volha Haidukova says.
According to official information, Haidukou was detained as he was "installing a dead drop with information interesting for foreign secret services". Many find the accusation absurd. European Belarus civil campaign released a statement saying the activist was detained for distributing Charter'97 newspaper. Human rights activists link prosecution of Haidukou to his pro-opposition views and explain it with attempts to scare young activists.
