Opinion: Dialogue enables the youth to engage in the country's sustainable development processes
Dialogue on an equal footing enables young people to engage more actively in the processes of sustainable development, Anatoly Isachenko, Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus and National Coordinator for the SDGs, told the media at a presentation meeting with students of the Skorina Gomel State University, BelTA has learned.

Anatoly Isachenko is sure that the involvement of young people in the promotion of sustainable development goals is necessary for the progressive development of Belarus. “Dialogue on an equal footing and regular meetings of SDG youth ambassadors within the framework of the Sustainable Development - the Future of the Planet is in Our Hands project helps young people be more actively involved in the processes of sustainable development. It is important for us to preserve and multiply for our contemporaries and future generations the high living standards, economy, development of personal potential, which have been formed over the past 25 years,” the vice-speaker of the Council of the Republic said.

One of the 17 SDG youth ambassadors was Ivan Rizevsky, a student of the Faculty of Geology and Geography at the Skorina Gomel State University. During the meeting at the university he presented the project of a station to recycle solid municipal waste. The innovator proposes to produce ecological fuel, bio-fertilizer from organics. The project is important for the energy sector and will help solve ecological problems with waste disposal.

The deputy chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus answered young people's questions about the implementation of the sustainable development goals in the country. The meeting also touched upon the development of territories affected by the Chernobyl accident. “This is a landmark meeting on the eve of the anniversary of the Chernobyl tragedy. After 35 years, we can see how the affected regions are revived and comfortable living conditions are recreated. This once again emphasizes the correctness of the strategy chosen by the state in this most important issue,” he stressed.

Anatoly Isachenko hailed the activity of Gomel youth in various projects. He got familiar with several innovative projects of Skorina Gomel State University students, which have already been implemented. Among them is an application to determine the geolocation of ambulance crews, and a legal clinic operating at the university.

The Sustainable Development - the Future of the Planet is in Our Hands project was launched in March 2021. Thematic lectures are held at universities across the country. Among the speakers are the SDG youth ambassadors.
