Alyaksandr Lukashenka made a sexist statement when he claimed that ‘a person in a skirt’ would not be able to fulfil the President’s functions, presidential candidate Tatstsyana Karatkevich commented on the President’s words.
Having voted at a polling station, the Belarusian President told journalists: “Our President has numerous functions – from security to the economy. A person in a skirt is unlikely to be able to cope with them now.” Even if she could do it, the society is not ready for it, Lukashenka added.
"I would not like to comment on it. It is a sexist statement, a shallow appraisal,” BelaPAN quotes Karatkevich.
It is strange to hear such things from a person running for the fifth presidential term and having ‘so many unfulfilled promises’ in his past, the candidate said.
