Belarus’ industrial output reported down 7.1 percent in January

Belarus' industrial output in January 2014 totaled 52.2 trillion rubels (some $5.5 billion), a 7.1-percent year-on-year decrease, reported the National Statistical Committee (Belstat).

According to Belstat, output decreased by 27.4 percent year-on-year in the production of transport vehicles and equipment; by 19 percent in the production of machines and equipment; by 15.1 percent in the production of rubber and plastic products; by 10.6 percent in the production of mineral resources (other than fuel and energy resources); by 8.6 percent in the food industry (including beverages and cigarettes); by 8.4 percent in the production of cellulose, wood pulp, paper and cardboard; by 8.2 percent in the production of leather, leather products and footwear; by 7.5 percent in the production of electric, electronic and optical equipment; by 6.4 percent in the production of non-metal (other than rubber and plastic) mineral products; by 5.6 percent in the iron and steel industry; by five percent in the textile and garment industries; by 4.9 percent in the chemical industry; and by 0.4 percent in the electricity, gas and water supply industry.

Output increased by 10.1 percent in the production of fuel and energy resources; by 4.6 percent in the timber and woodworking industries; by 3.4 percent in the production of coke, petroleum products and nuclear materials; and by one percent in the pharmaceutical industry.

According to Belstat, the first month of the year saw an 80.3-percent fall in the output of televisions, a 64.2-percent fall in the output of trucks, a 60.1-percent decrease in the output of mining haul trucks, a 26.6-prcent fall in the output of refrigerators and freezers, a 13.6-percent fall in the output of chemical fibers, a 10.4-percent decrease in the output of tractors, a 6.6-percent decrease in potash output, a 1.7-percent decrease in diesel output, and a 0.2-percent decrease in gasoline output.

The output of carpets increased by 23.2 percent to total 1,462,000 square meters. The output of elevators increased by 7.2 percent to total 681. The output of whole milk products grew by 0.6 percent to total 152,100 metric tons, while cement output increased by 3.3 percent to amount to 225,400 tons. //BelaPAN
