The plant begins to work four-day weeks today.

The website charter97.org received confirmation from trade union activist Styapan Paulovich, who works on the Minsk Automobile Plant (MAZ).

According to a decree of February 25, 2013, working days in March are moved to autumn 2013.

"The absence of demand for MAZ vehicles has reduced purchasing activity in the Russian and international market that resulted in raising the level of trucks and towed vehicles in stocks. [The decision was taken] in view of adjusting the production output and with the aim of rational using work force, materials and energy resources," the decree reads.

In accordance with the decision of the plant's management, working days on 15, 22 and 29 March 2013 will be moved to Saturdays of 19 October and 9 and 20 November 2013 for workers of all MAZ units, workers of the foundry, the forging and bus plants and MAZ branches – the service centre, the trading house, the hotel complex and the culture centre.

It should be reminded that information about four-day weeks on MAZ plant appeared on March 5, but the plant declined to comment on the situation.
