The national currency rate is being strengthened, Alexander Lukashenko said during the message to the Belarusian people and parliament.
The president said that in recent years the population sold $1.5 billion, and bought only one billion.
"National Bank is even forced to confront a sharp strengthening of the exchange rate to prevent the worsening terms of foreign trade", Lukashenko said.
The President said that exchange rates are formed as a result of open, transparent auctions. However, he added that "sharp fluctuations should not be allowed anymore".
