Belarus had a $5,453-million deficit of foreign trade in goods in 2011 compared with $9,600.9 million the previous year, according to the National Statistics Committee (Belstat).
In 2011, Belarus' foreign trade in goods reportedly totaled $86,041.1 million, a 43-percent year-on-year increase, with exports amounting to $40,294 million, a 59.4-percent increase, and imports to $45,747.1 million, a 31.1-percent increase.
Belarus had a deficit of $8,583.3 million in trade with CIS member countries in 2011, compared with $6,900.8 million the previous year. Exports rose by 43 percent to total $19,503.3 million and imports by 36.8 percent to total $28,086.6 million. Trade with CIS countries increased by 39.3 percent to total $47,589.9 million.
In 2011, Belarus had a deficit of $10,743.4 million in trade with the other two members of the Customs Union, Kazakhstan and Russia. The deficit was $8,068 million in 2010. Exports totaled $14,316.2 million, an increase of 37.4 percent, and imports $59.6 million, a rise of 35.6 percent. Trade with the Customs Union member countries rose by 36.2 percent to total $39,375.8 million.
In particular, trade with Russia totaled $38,607.6 million, a 37.7-percent increase, with exports rising by 37.5 percent to total $13,685 million and imports by 37.8 percent to total $24,922.6 million. Belarus had a deficit of $11,237.6 million compared with $8,127 million the previous year.
Trade with Kazakhstan totaled $768.2 million, an 11.8-percent decrease. Exports amounted to $631.2 million, a 35.8-percent rise, and imports to $137 million, a decrease of 66.2 percent, with Belarus having an export surplus of $494.2 million against $59 million in 2010.
Belarus' trade with foreign countries outside the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) totaled $38,451.2 million, a 47.9-percent increase. Exports rose by 78.5 percent to total $20,790.7 million and imports by 23.1 percent to total $17,660.5 million. Belarus had an export surplus of $3,130.2 million compared with a deficit of $2,700.1 million in 2010.
