International Reserve Assets of Belarus Reached $8 Billion

International reserve assets of Belarus, calculated by the IMF methodology, amounted to Br7.92 billion on January 1, 2012. Of them, $1.9 billion is accounted for monetary gold, while the special drawing rights - $572 million, reserve assets in foreign currency - $4.49 billion and other assets - $950.1 million.

During the December 2011, the international reserve assets rose by $560.8 million, or 7.6%, while during the year, they rose by 57.4% ($2.89 billion). This was reported by the National Bank of Belarus.

Monetary gold rose by $109.2 million (6.1%) in December, while for the year - by $304.9 million (19.1%). Special Drawing Rights decreased by $6.1 million per month. However, they increased by $4.7 million for the year. Reserve assets in foreign currency grew by $41.7 million (0.9%) in December, 2.3 times up from January 1, 2011. Other assets in December rose in 1.8 times (by $416 million), down by 0.6% ($5.4 million) for the year.

International reserve assets of Belarus in the national definition totaled $9.39 billion on January 1, 2012. Of this sum, $2.41 billion is precious metals and stones, $5.45 billion - reserve assets in foreign currency and $1.52 billion - other assets.

Gold and Forex reserves rose by 5.5% ($487.6 million) for the month, while for the year – by 52.5% ($3.23 billion). Precious metals and stones increased in December, 2011 by 1.3% ($31.4 million), while for all the whole last year – by 33.6% ($606.6 million). Foreign currency assets increased by 0.9% ($49.1 million) during the month and by 92.8% ($2.63 billion) during the year. Other assets rose by 36.5% ($407.2 million) over the month and decreased by 0.04% ($0.6 million) over the year.
